What should you do with your Christmas Tree after the holidays are over?

You should RECYCLE it!

Christmas trees don’t belong in your alley; let them have a second life as mulch in our parks and gardens!  The Northcenter Neighborhood Association is working to keep trees from taking up space in landfills, and you can help.

Already recycled your own tree, have an artificial tree, or don’t even have a tree, but hate to see our alleys littered with trees in January? Help NNA recycle them! We are looking for volunteers to accept and haul trees on January 12th and 13th. You don’t need to be strong, just willing to give a couple hours to help save hundreds of trees from the landfills.

Take your tree to a City drop-off point

This is the best option! Remove your ornaments, lights, and garland and bring your tree to any of the City of Chicago drop-off spots. The two closest locations to Northcenter are Lincoln Park - Cannon Dr. at Fullerton Ave. (Parking lot east of Cannon Dr.) and Margate Park - 4921 N. Marine Dr. The City will accept your tree from January 5th through the 19th. More information can be found here.

Take your tree to a NNA drop-off point

If you don’t have a car or cannot take your tree to the nearest drop-off, bring it to a NNA location and we’ll take it to a recycling point for you! You still need to remove your ornaments, lights, and garland. NNA’s drop off location is:

Northcenter Town Square, 4100 N. Damen Ave. Trees can be dropped off from 9 AM - 5 PM on January 12th and 13th ONLY.

We are asking for a $10 suggested donation for each tree saved. We are very grateful to the Northcenter Chamber of Commerce for allowing us to use this space. Please be considerate when dropping your trees off and do not leave your tree outside of NNA’s designated times and follow these guidelines:

1.  We are not a City lot - we are your neighbors who are hauling your trees to the City recycling spots.  If you have your tree on your car, PLEASE take it all the way to the City lot at Clark Park.

2.  If you are using our lot, please follow these simple rules:

- Do not leave tree outside the fence

- Do not leave tree in walkway inside the fence

- No wreaths, no garland, no lights

3.  If these rules aren't followed, it jeopardizes the future of the program.
